Why Visit
It has a large port with plenty of seaside cafes. The nearby vineyards are amongst the best in France and the world.

History
Bandol was a small coastal Mediterranean village between modern day Marseille and Toulon. It disappears following the Fall of the Roman Empire and the barbarian invasions. The population fled to the inland villages like La Cadiere that were better protected.

The village reappears in the Early Modern Period. The Duke of Epernon, near the end of the Wars of Religions constructs a fort there. King Henry IV grants it in 1596 as a fief for valor in combat to Antoine Boyer. Boyer is knighted and his descendants continue to dwell in the fort. In 1715 a village is founded by seven families. Thanks to its famous and incredible wines is grows and has more than 1200 inhabitants in 1789. The village continues to produce some of the best wines in France in these days.

Museums - Archeological
The village has various cultural activities that one can do. There is the famous Jules Verne Theatre and there is also a Cultural Centre and Exhibition Hall that is definitely worth a visit. It has an Exotic Zoo which features dozens of exotic animal and plant species.

Beaches
Bandol offers many sandy beaches, cliffs and inlents. The beautiful natural environment is perfect for a swim.
